Department of Labor Salary Exemption Rule: 

Department of Labor issued a final change to the salary exemption rule, changing the cutoff from $455 per week to $684 per week ($23,660 to $35,568).  The new rule becomes effective on January 1, 2020. Additional information can be found at https://www.dol.gov/whd/overtime2019/index.htm.

EEO1 Comp 2 Report:

Letters have been generated and the EEO1 Comp2 report is out and now accepting submissions.  There is an option to upload a .csv file for efficient submissions, 2017 and 2018 must be submitted separately.  The deadline for completion was 9/30/19.  EEO has announced that they are strongly considering not making this an annual requirement due to the labor intensive responsibility it places on employers.

Security/OSHA Updates: 

If you do not already have a strong safety plan in place, you should do so immediately and ensure that Active Shooter Training is included.  The Department of Homeland Security has a free training available on their website at https://www.dhs.gov/cisa/active-shooter-preparedness. Also, just a reminder that there are protections for gender neutrality now included in OSHA regulations – especially concerning restroom utilization. 

Upcoming update to the W-4:

There is a pending update to the W-4, which is set to be released sometime before spring of 2020.  It lengthens the W-4 to several pages, and includes the bracket as a requirement, where it used to be for reference.
