Topic: The SHRM Foundation & Hiring People with Disabilities

Our November meeting and annual silent auction will be held virtually only, due to recent COVID-19 case increase and recommendations.

SHRM Foundation Director, Wendi Safstrom, will kick off the November event speaking briefly about the functions and initiatives of the SHRM Foundation.  She will conclude by talking about this year’s new initiative of ‘Employing People with Disabilities,’ which will lead into our featured speaker, Brewster McLeod.

Brewster McLeod will share inspirational stories about his VIP’s (his employees) and the mission of McLeod’s which is:  “We exist to offer dignity to those with special needs, to offer inclusion to those often excluded; and to improve the community in which we operate.”  

Brewster’s efforts are a great model for the Employing Abilities @Work Initiative by the SHRM Foundation, in partnership with the Workplace Initiative by Understood, to strengthen the skills and abilities of professionals to hire, develop, advance and retain individuals with disabilities in their workplace.

3:30 pm - 3:45 pm: Waiting room and automated informational slides
3:45 pm - 4:00 pm: Business Meeting Update

4:00 pm - 4:15 pm: Presentation by Wendi Safstrom

4:15 pm - 5:00 pm: Presentation by Brewster McCleod

5:00 pm - 5:30 pm: Final promotion of auction items, bidding, and raffle

5:30 pm: Auction closes

5:30 pm - 5:45 pm: Collect items and close out purchases


Important Notes for Virtual attendees:

  • Unfortunately, due to the current rise in COVID-19 cases for Fayette County and Governor Beshear’s recent recommendation of ‘no in-person meetings,’ the Bluegrass SHRM Board of Directors has decided to move our upcoming meeting on Tuesday November 10th to ‘all virtual',' no longer offering an in-person option.  Everything else regarding the meeting, program, silent auction, etc. to benefit the SHRM Foundation will remain the same as scheduled and we encourage everyone to participate!
  • Virtual attendees will receive the GoToMeeting virtual meeting information via email the afternoon of the event.  The link will be open at 3:30 pm.  If you choose to only attend the meeting via telephone, you must contact communications@bgshrm.org to receive credit for your attendance.  
  • All live bidding will be accepted through the GiveSmart app -https://BGSHRM.givesmart.comBidding is open and will close at 5:30 pm Tuesday November 10th.

Can't make it? Would you like to transfer an upcoming registration from one event to another or can someone else from your office attend in your place? Substitutions are allowed; however, the non-member rate may apply. Requests for transfers must be made before the event takes place. Please submit your request via email to communications@bgshrm.org.
